The Daihatsu Terios is a compact sport utility vehicle (SUV) that has been in production since 1997. It was developed by the Japanese automaker Daihatsu as a successor to the F300 series Rocky. The Terios has gained popularity for its compact size, practical design, and versatility, making it a suitable choice for urban driving as well as outdoor adventures. Over the years, the model has undergone several updates and redesigns to appeal to a broad range of customers.

Initially, the Daihatsu Terios was available in both short- and long-wheelbase versions. The short-wheelbase model was primarily designed for urban driving and easier maneuverability in crowded city streets. The long-wheelbase version, on the other hand, offered more interior space and was often equipped with three-row seating options, making it ideal for larger families or those needing extra passenger capacity. This long-wheelbase variant is still mainly available in markets such as Indonesia.

The production of the short-wheelbase Terios ceased in 2016, coinciding with the market shift and introduction of newer models. In 2019, Daihatsu replaced the short-wheelbase model with the A200 series Rocky crossover, which features modern styling and updated technology. Despite this transition, the long-wheelbase Terios continues to serve specific markets, with Indonesia being a primary example where three-row seating remains popular among consumers.

Apart from the standard SUV, the first-generation Daihatsu Terios had a smaller kei car version called the Terios Kid or Lucia. This compact variant was designed to meet kei car regulations in Japan, offering a more affordable and economical option for city drivers. The Kei car version shared some components and styling cues with its larger sibling but was distinctly smaller and more lightweight, aimed at navigating narrow streets and achieving better fuel efficiency.

In terms of specifications, the Daihatsu Terios is equipped with a gasoline engine that produces approximately 87 PS. The SUV features a body built with five doors, providing easy access to the interior. It is typically offered with a manual transmission, emphasizing straightforward handling and driving experience. The combination of these features has contributed to the vehicle’s reputation as a reliable, practical, and economical choice within its segment.
